Beautiful Bigfork’s historic downtown village

I absolutely am in love with this little town! We had happy hour on the third floor balcony at Swan River Inn and Rooftop Gardens’ restaurant–best view in the village. I may have mentioned before this amazing ice creamery called Sweet Peaks.  We were crazy about this place and enjoyed a special treat from here…

Kayaking to Wild Horse Island

This morning we packed up early– Cyrus having the day off–and started our kayak day voyage to the island: 2.2 miles there, then hike up around Eagle Point Lookout, then rowed three miles back (I took a little detour). At the beginning of the trail we ran into the beautiful wild horses mixed in with…

Flathead Brewery

We are always quick to try the various Porters and Stouts first. Second (aka final) round, I did the sampler to see what their IPA (abv 8.6!!), Belgium, and Belgium-with added Ginger & Lemon grass beer tasted like.

Last dinner on Flathead lake site

…And what a sight it is. We definitely enjoyed our little semi private beach spot with kayaks at our fingertips, our hammock set up amongst the mini squirrels and towering pines, with rainbows embracing the skies around us. The five days here couldn’t have gone by any quicker. We had one of our nice bottles…

Butter Beans and Chocolate Malt Lunch

Butter Beans (Lima) Soak the bag (1lb.) of beans 6-8 hours, then rinse and drain Add about 6 cups of water and beans to a large pot 1 T butter salt (easy with salt since bouillon contains a lot) and pepper 1 T chives 1-2 T dried onions 4 chicken bouillon cubes 1 t oil…

Life (and work) on the lake…

Just got to say how thoroughly I’m enjoying the view from the “cubicle” this week on the ginormous Flathead Lake. Although the dynamic weather over the water (abrupt windstorms, followed by eerie calms, and then lightning shows) and curious wildlife is a bit more distracting than I’d like. Can’t have it all I guess… -Cyrus…

Rainbow over the lake dinner

We went to the nearest city of Polson, Montana (cute little lake-side town) to look for kayaks to rent for the week. After we found them, loaded up and made a quick stop by the grocery store for a few essential items we saw the most beautiful rainbow on our 20 minute drive home…until we…

Tamarack Brewery is not only in Missoula…

Here we are in Lakeside at another Tamarack Brewery just near our campsite along Flathead Lake. What a nice first day back in Montana having drinks and dinner in a beautiful little Lakeside town after a long hard week:) Thanks Cyrus!

Montana has much more to offer than “big skies” and breweries

Beyond the doors of the Tamarack Brewing Co. in Missoula lies the Clark Fork River, just steps away from the most beautiful old carousel (carousel frame- circa 1918!!). Cyrus had never been on a carousel before so… “tokens for two please?”. After the carousel we stumbled upon a festival! Here, they had food and drinks…
